Headaches and migraines cause an overload of pain and pressure in the head and can be very uncomfortable. However, differentiating the two can mean that you are able to get faster relief and prevent future aches from occurring. So, let’s talk about the differences.
1. Headaches are typically a result of the environment that a person is in.
For example, staring at a computer screen without protective glasses, fragranced cleaning products and even the weather, such as an increase in temperature or humidity. Exposure to intense stress or anxiety can also bring on what is known as a tension headache – this is the most common headache type. Keeping a physical note of these triggers can help to eliminate unnecessary discomfort in future.
Migraines often occur without warning. The exact cause is unknown, but there have been a few suggestions of migraine triggers. Alcohol, emotional anxiety, hormonal changes and sleep are on the list. Whereas, a migraine can last for as little as 4 hours, or as many as 72 hours. The exact length will vary from person to person, but as with every health condition, there are a few things that could help to temporarily relieve the pain.
4.Headache and migraines are handled very differently.
It is said that drinking lots of water can help to alleviate the pressure from a headache, and limiting the intake of caffeine might help, as caffeine can cause dehydration. Hot or cold compresses could also relieve the ache, by loosening up the muscles.
Due to the triggers of migraines, resting in a dark and quiet room may help to ease discomfort. Many people also massage their temples as a way of relaxing the muscles and of course, drink water to stay hydrated.
